Happy New Year!
Finally the candy-stripe Christmas cushion is finished.
It's turned out so much better than I anticipated (love it when that happens) and Christmassy or not, it gets to stay out in the house for the next couple of months!
I got some really lovely gifts for Christmas this year which included this personalised notebook (it's currently still blank inside - 'fabulous' is a lot of pressure!) and fountain pen.
I'd like to carry them both around with me and so have started to make a pouch to keep them in so they don't get damaged or lost inside my (always junk-filled) bag.
So once again I've been sewing hexagons, since I first tried English paper piecing hexagons a couple of months ago I haven't really stopped since. It's just so addictive and too easy to cut a batch of papers with the Hexagons, 3/4in Sides die and then cut the fabric with the Hexagons, 1in Sides #2 die.
The general idea was to keep it fairly simple and embellish a plain Essex linen pouch with a strip of hexagons and just sort of see how it went, probably using a loop and button fastening for the top.
I have Flurry by Dashwood Studio in 5 different colours in my stash and so for a change (well it is New Year) opted to use all the same print for the hexagons. They aren't a set of colours that I would necessarily put together but the print continuity holds them together (I think) - the photos were taken at night so the colour isn't great but I'll definitely have good daylight shots next week, promise!
I basted and pressed the hexies before joining them to make two strips, one for the front of the pouch and one for the back. When the papers were removed and the strips pressed flat, I pinned each one to either side of the pouch and machine-stitched around the inner edge of each individual hexagon, working my way down the strip.
I've only quilted one side so far but aim to complete it later today as I want to start using it asap!
